WIUT is proud to congratulate Kamila Yadgarova, Level 5 Commercial Law student and the Manager of WIUT Photo Club on becoming the finalist in the UNESCO Youth Eyes on the Silk Roads International Photo Contest.
Organized within the framework of the UNESCO Silk Roads Programme, UNESCO Youth Programme and the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022), the Youth Eyes on the Silk Roads Photo Contest is an opportunity for young people to share their perceptions and further their understanding of the common cultural heritage and pluralistic identities emerging from the interactions and exchanges taking place along the Silk Roads. The contest encourages the use of photography to extend these cultural interactions and encounters in the contemporary world, to foster mutual understanding and promote peace amongst the diverse populations encompassed by the Silk Roads.
Kamila’s photo work that had also been showcased at the WIUT Annual Photo/Art Exhibition “Generation of Independence: My Motherland is my inspiration” in November 2019, was one of the 3500 images submitted for the contest. It has now been selected to be part of the finalist shortlist of TOP 100 that best captured the spirit of the Silk Road.
The photo work, titled Jasmine, pictures Saida Anvarova, WIUT Foundation student, posing in a traditional Uzbek women’s attire and headdress, complemented by traditional jewelry. It was produced by the author as part of WIUT’s Photo Club’s project picturing WIUT female students dressed in attires demonstrating the traditional dress of the different regions of Uzbekistan. The project aimed to once again draw attention to and popularize the splendid nature of the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan.
