Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) prepares non-native speakers of English to become professionals in different spheres utilizing English as a medium of instruction. The students of WIUT come from different regions of Uzbekistan and from abroad who vary in their native languages. With these variety of multiple languages used, WIUT does not have an explicit language policy.
Thus, under the guidance of the University of Westminster Professor Andrew Linn, we launched a research project to investigate language attitudes at WIUT. We present our preliminary findings based on data collected from 1200 questionnaire responses and 40 interviews from students, teachers, administrative and maintenance staff.
