Westminster International University in Tashkent continues to strengthen its international engagement in public health education and research through participation in key global initiatives.
The Master of Science in Public Health Science programme has joined the Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education (GCCHE) at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, becoming the first member institution from Uzbekistan. The Consortium welcomed WIUT’s participation and expressed interest in learning how climate and planetary health education is being integrated into professional training and national discussions in Uzbekistan.
Through this partnership, WIUT will contribute to international research activities, including the ongoing global survey on climate and planetary health education in nursing schools. The collaboration also creates new opportunities for WIUT faculty and students to engage in advanced educational programmes focused on climate and planetary health.
In addition, WIUT participated in the Second WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit, an international forum bringing together policymakers, researchers, and educational institutions to discuss the future of integrative and complementary medicine. WIUT was represented by Dr. Sukhrob Saliev, the Course Leader of the MSc in Public Health Science programme, who highlighted the University’s role in advancing public health education and research, providing continuous professional development for healthcare managers in Uzbekistan, and promoting evidence-based approaches to nutrition and physical activity.
During the Summit, Dr. Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, welcomed WIUT’s growing contribution to capacity building and research and noted opportunities for future collaboration between WHO Europe and WIUT.
Through these initiatives, WIUT continues to build strong international partnerships and support the development of science-based solutions for healthcare in Uzbekistan and the wider region.
