Every year the University celebrates the many achievements of our students, faculty, and staff. In this Year in Review highlights we want to show just a small portion of hundreds of moments from the year, large and small, that helped to build academic excellence, partnerships, and community-focused initiatives.
In 2025 Westminster International University in Tashkent marked 23rd anniversary celebrating over two decades of excellence and continued to strengthen its role as a leading international university in Uzbekistan and the wider Central Asian region. Throughout the year, WIUT focused on enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, expanding research activity, and supporting students in developing the skills and experience they need for their future careers.
Outstanding Student Achievements
WIUT made history at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2025 in Washington, D.C., achieving its best result at most prestigious international law moot court. Competing against leading universities from around the globe, our Team reached the Top 16 standing alongside institutions such as Harvard University, the University of Oxford, and Moscow State University. In an outstanding individual achievement, Karimakhon Khabibullakhoja was ranked among the Top 30 Oralists worldwide.
Gulasal Butayeva, BSc in Business Information Systems student, was honoured with a Presidential Medal of the Republic of Uzbekistan, recognising her exceptional contribution and service. This prestigious national award underscores our students’ growing role in shaping civic leadership and public engagement in Uzbekistan.
Ulugbek Usmanov, as part of the Uzbekistan national foil team, secured the gold medal at the Riyadh 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games. This victory marks a significant achievement for Uzbek fencing and reflects the dedication, discipline, and excellence demonstrated by our students beyond the classroom.
WIUT students claimed 1st place at the inaugural Uzbekistan Future CFO University Students’ Competition, organised by ACCA with the support of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Their achievement earned the team the top prize of 20,000,000 UZS, and all four students received employment offers from KPMG, a strategic partner of the competition and one of the world’s leading professional services firms.
Global Alumni Impact: Westminster Alumni Award 2025
WIUT proudly celebrates alumnus Denis Roman (BSc in Business Information Systems, Class of 2017), who was awarded the Westminster Alumni Award 2025 in the Entrepreneurial Award category. Denis is the co-founder and CEO of We Digital, one of Uzbekistan’s leading marketing agencies. He is also the co-founder of AIM Lab, a creative technology unit developing AI-driven marketing tools.
Teaching Excellence and New Programmes
A key milestone in 2025 was the growing recognition of WIUT academic staff through Higher Education (HE) Fellowship awards, reflecting excellence in teaching and learning practice in line with internationally recognised professional standards.
WIUT faculty members successfully achieved Associate Fellowship (AFHEA) and Fellowship (FHEA) status, demonstrating strong commitment to student-centred teaching, reflective and evidence-based pedagogical practice, and continuous professional development and innovation in learning design.
WIUT expanded its academic portfolio with the launch of one undergraduate, BSc in Computer Science and two new postgraduate degree programmes: MBA in Finance and MA in Creative Industries Management, further strengthening its commitment to delivering internationally recognized, market-relevant education. All programmes are validated by the University of Westminster (UK) and reflect our ongoing efforts to align education with industry needs, international standards, and future workforce demands.
Global Impact and Sustainable Development
Our commitment to sustainability and social impact was further recognised through our performance in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, which measure universities’ contributions to the United Nations SDGs. WIUT continued to demonstrate strength across key SDGs, reflecting the integration of sustainability, responsible leadership, and community engagement into teaching, research, and institutional strategy. WIUT ranked 1st in Central Asia for SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and 3rd in Central Asia for SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
Collaboration and Partnerships
WIUT played a central role in Uzbekistan-UK Education Forum 2025, a major bilateral forum which took place in London, bringing together universities, policymakers, and education leaders to strengthen collaborative efforts and international cooperation.
WIUT proudly represented Uzbekistan at APAIE 2025 Conference and Exhibition in New Dehli, India. Through participation in key conversations and networking at APAIE, WIUT reaffirmed its commitment to global engagement and academic excellence within broader ecosystem of transnational education and cooperation.
In September 2025, WIUT was honoured as a Global Public Health Education Centre of Excellence under the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Programme, marking a major achievement for the university and reinforcing Uzbekistan’s role in advancing regional health education.
University strengthened its collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to support national efforts on graduate employment and career development. A key outcome of this collaboration was the launch of Career Centre platform, a unified digital system designed to connect students, universities and employers across Uzbekistan.
A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade to jointly develop programmes and initiatives that enhance human capital development, support scientific research, and strengthen education-industry linkages.
University Life and Community Engagement
This year Tashkent International Model United Nations (TIMUN 2025) hosted by WIUT brought together students from across Uzbekistan and the region to simulate UN proceedings reinforcing our university’s role in promoting active citizenshio and leadership in wider community.
The year culminated with the Graduation Week 2025, a time-honoured tradition that celebrates the achievements and journeys of our students and alumni. The week featured a series of engaging events, including Alumni Reunion, Graduation Ceremony, Culture Events, and WIUT Business Forum. This year more than 1,400 graduates proudly received their diplomas joining a growing community of over 10,00 alumni.

The achievements of 2025 underscore WIUT’s position as a dynamic, student-centred institution with a strong global collaboration. The university’s progress in academic quality, research, students support, and partnerships provides solid foundation for the years ahead. WIUT will continue to strengthen its academic programmes and research profile; support students in developing the knowledge, skills needed for their future careers; deepen collaboration with partners at home and abroad; invest in an inclusive, innovative campus environment that encourages learning, creativity, and engagement. As WIUT moves beyond 2025, the university remains committed to its mission of providing high-quality, international education in Uzbekistan and to making meaningful contribution to the development of the region.
