REPORTS TO:  Rector (Strategic Oversight), Dean of SOLTE (Operational Oversight)

 

PURPOSE:  The Director of the Centre for Academic Development (CAD) will provide visionary leadership to promote excellence in teaching, learning, and academic growth at Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT). The Director will oversee all aspects of CAD's operations, ensuring alignment with the university’s strategic vision and fostering a culture of innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous professional development.

CONTEXT: The Director of CAD will lead, manage, develop and coordinate the University’s academic staff development strategy.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  •  Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for CAD that is aligned with WIUT’s institutional strategy, goals, and mission.
  •  Establish and maintain partnerships with local and international institutions to support innovative CPD initiatives.
  • Ensure the Centre contributes to WIUT’s reputation as a leader in higher education in Uzbekistan and beyond.
  • Design and oversee the organisation of professional development initiatives, including workshops, seminars, learning and teaching symposiums, CPD certificate programmes, and research training for academic staff.
  • Work with academic departments to identify optimal times and themes for CPD activities, ensuring minimal disruption to teaching schedules.
  • Engage internal and external experts as trainers, ensuring sessions meet high-quality standards.
  •  Ensure effective promotion of CPD events through WIUT’s communication channels and maintain a streamlined registration process.
  • Monitor attendance, participation, and impact, providing reports and analysis to inform future events.
  •  Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and peer-to-peer learning across faculties.
  • Lead the development of innovative teaching and learning resources, integrating evidence-based pedagogy.
  • Manage CAD’s day-to-day operations, including resource allocation, budget oversight, and staff supervision.
  • Oversee the organisation of training sessions, ensuring optimal scheduling and quality.
  • Coordinate the issuance of verified certificates and digital badges for training participants.
  •  Conduct regular needs assessments to identify professional development priorities for academic staff.
  • Establish feedback mechanisms to evaluate the effectiveness of CAD’s programmes and trainers.
  • Use data-driven insights to refine and improve CPD offerings.
  • Advocate for the professional development needs of WIUT’s academic staff.
  •  Promote the acknowledgement of CPD achievements within the university, encouraging faculty participation in ongoing development.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in education, academic development, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Fluent in written and oral English, Uzbek and/or Russian.

 EXPERIENCE

  • At least 5 years’ experience in professional and lifelong education.
  • Significant experience in academic development, professional training, or leadership roles within higher education.
  • Proven expertise in designing and delivering professional development programmes.
  • Strong understanding of pedagogical trends and innovative teaching practices.
  • Evidence of working within teams.
