Summary of Position and Key Responsibilities

Westminster International University in Tashkent is seeking Management / Marketing Faculty Members to work in Tashkent. In your role as a Faculty Member, you will be dedicated to undertaking teaching, subject development, research and related administration on a range of courses, including both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Management / Marketing. You will also work with WIUT colleagues to develop its undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD courses, which will have introductory and intermediate courses in business management and marketing and advanced courses in project/operations management, strategy and innovation, design thinking and entrepreneurship, and business analytics.

WIUT’s distinctiveness is primarily based on an atmosphere that contributes to the intellectual, cultural and social enrichment of students offered by a research-focused university. As a Faculty Member, you will be focused on the student experience through high-quality teaching, personal guidance and support to ensure that students master and apply the material. We are seeking someone committed to the development, delivery and administration of a module or set of modules, intellectually curious and prepared to engage in research on issues relating to the business and economic development of Uzbekistan and Central Asia.   

Programme Description

This course is designed to meet the challenges of a dynamic, technology-driven business world. The course will prepare students for management, marketing and entrepreneurship roles in different types of organizations and provide a solid foundation for understanding how businesses operate. It also aims to develop transferrable skills such as leadership skills, business perceptiveness and the ability to work collaboratively that will help graduates to pursue careers in every section of the economy – from retailing to manufacturing, government to “green” business and as well as establishing their own businesses.

You will have access to and be expected to contribute to industry research and training.

Required Qualifications and Experience 

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD (preferred) or close to completion of a PhD in Management/Marketing for Lecturer and Senior Lecturer appointments and Master's degree for Associate Lecturer appointments.
  • Fluency in English either with 7 IELTS or a subject qualification taught and assessed in English.

 

Teaching Experience

  • A demonstrated commitment to teaching and students; preferably at least 3 years of experience have introductory and intermediate courses in business management and marketing and other advanced management / marketing disciplines/subjects;
  • Demonstrated understanding of teaching i.e. developing new modules grounded in a discipline area and interdisciplinary in nature;
  • Experience using innovative and new teaching methods, including the assessment setting, marking and evaluation process;
  • Experience in some form of management and administration involving students, faculty and staff, i.e. managing faculty, student dissertations / projects; and
  • Experience teaching in Central Asia or similar international experience would be a valuable asset.

 Research Experience

  • A proven ability to publish research in internationally peer reviewed Management / Marketing journals related to your areas of personal research expertise and/or books or professional publications;
  • Regular attendance and experience with presenting at international research seminars and conferences;
  • Experience as a peer reviewer for well-established scholarly journals in your area of study; and
  • Experience in conducting research in Central Asia would be a valuable asset.

PURPOSE:              To undertake responsibilities for WIUT’s web design, development, management as well as SEO/SEM. The post holder will manage WIUT’s website technically and also in terms of its content. The post also includes analysis of the impact of the site and provision of analytics to the management of WIUT, development of content to enhance the market position and reputation of the University, troubleshooting real time and ensuring that the website is constantly up to date. To maintain and manage websites of other departments and centres of WIUT. The Post is primarily a technical position and secondarily a marketing post.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To help implement the Marketing and Corporate Communications Strategy of the University, in relation to website management and enhancement;
  • To manage the university’s web electronic presence and content, ensuring that the best interests of the University are represented;
  • To use content management systems to manage content and create and update web-design;
  • To optimise content and images according to SEO;
  • To review and ensure the design is contemporary, relevant and effective;
  • To analyze and provide reports on the effectiveness and efficiency of the website, to analyse website traffic and users engagement metrics;
  • To support other departments in upgrading and maintaining their websites that are peripheral to westminster.uz;
  • To stay up-to-date with developments and generate new ideas and provide thought and perspective for adoption where appropriate;

CONTEXT

The University was  established in 2002 as the first international university in Uzbekistan and now has over 5500 students and 400 staff. The post is the Senior Academic Administratior and the postholder will work closely with and report directly to the Rector of WIUT, who is appointed on behalf of the Uzbek government.

The post is part of the Executive Team of WIUT which is the senior management team of the University.  The post will also chair an Executive Team Forum of Senior managers reporting to the post.

The postholder will work in close liaison with Senior staff members and teams at the UoW including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement and Employability) the Senior Academic Coordinator- Director of Transnational Education, Academic Registry, QSO and other relevant departments.

English is the medium of instruction at WIUT for Teaching, Learning, Research, Academic Administration, Learning Resources, Student Services, etc.

JOB PURPOSE:      

The First Deputy Rector (Academic) is a senior a member of the WIUT Executive, working with the Rector, and other members of the Executive, to lead and manage the University. He/She has strategic responsibility for the development and delivery of the academic portfolio of teaching and learning of the University and oversight of the academic management systems of the University in accordance with the quality and standards set by the University of Westminster (UoW) in London, UK. 

The First Deputy Rector (Academic) is responsible for the leadership of the schools through the line management of the Deans; this includes providing strategic direction and leadership in areas including academic matters; and in particular student success.

The appointee  is responsible for the line management of the Academic Registrar ensuring  that they comply with the requirement of the UoW and follow best practice in higher education. He/She is also responsible for the line management of the Head of the Learning Resources Centre and through them the University’s Teaching and Learning systems.

The appointee will provide support and management experience on the development of the capability of the University to ensure the University is delivering all its services to a standard that is globally recognised.

Principal Accountabilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • To support the Rector of WIUT in the overall management of the University, its strategic planning and operational effectiveness; and to assist in the development of the capability of the university to sustain and demonstrate the quality of its overall operations;
  • To work with the Rector to maintain and continuoulsy develop the relationship betweenWIUT and the University of Westminster;
  • To provide leadership in the development and implementation of academic programmes which will ensure that the University maintains its position and the forefront of international education;
  • Support iniatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and the sustainable development goals in all aspects of academic life;
  • To foster academic excellence through intellectual growth, student centred learning, and scholarly and creative activities by providing academic strategic planning, administrative leadership, direction, and evaluation for all academic activities and faculty affairs at the University. Curriculum Development

  • To develop an Academic Plan that ensure the continuing vibrancy and development of the university, including through tecnology informed and action based learning.
  • To provide the overall direction for the development of the academic portfolio and to ensure that that courses are developed to meet the validation requirements of the University of Westminster.
  • Oversee the development, review and assessment of academic programmes ensuring that the curriculum reflects upto date industry needs

Person Specification

The appointee will:

  • Have at least 15 years of management experience in British Higher Education, including a track record of managing academic and administrative staff over this period;
  • Be well versed in British Higher Education quality assurance procedures and culture with a commitment to the maintenance of quality in teaching and research;
  • Be a well qualified academic, with a higher degree, preferably a doctorate, and an academic track record in teaching and research, all within an English Medium Instruction Environment;
  • Have a track record of leading and developing an Academic area of a British Higher Education institution with experience in developing, planning, implementing and evaluating academic quality and standards of programmes;
  • Experience in strategic planning, assessment of programme effectiveness, and development of policies to enhance academic units within the University;
  • Have a good overview of all aspects of University administration and procedures within an international setting, with a good understanding and appreciation of the transnational education model within emerging markets;
  • A history of progressively responsible, successful experience as an academic administrator at the Dean/Deputy/Associate Dean level or above involving graduate and/or undergraduate programmes including responsibility for budget, personnel recruitment, and evaluation;

PURPOSE:  To undertake responsibilities for the front-line service and advice for all internal enquiries from the university students; to provide a customer-focused process for all first-line enquiries – internal. During the admission period help and support in the Enquiry office with all external enquiries.

CONTEXT:  The University puts great effort into enhancing the student experience and supporting students toward their academic and career success. Information and Customer Services are an integral element of this activity. The Information and Customer Services Department has two sections: The Student Information and Support Section and the Customer Relations Section, which include Call Centre. This function will work within the university and the university offices. The post is for those who wish to learn practical customer-focused skills and to develop ‘in-work’ awareness. The internal inquiries officer works at the information desk; which is an open area in the hall of the building.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To provide first-line advice to all enquiries from students of the University;
  • To handle all enquiries (phone calls and students) and ensure that all enquiry records are maintained and inputted into the enquiry database;
  • To help in handling the internal student-facing information support services;

EFI (Economic Fundamentals Initiative) Project Coordinator

Purpose: recognizing the importance of international cooperation and the promotion of economic literacy, WIUT has been the lead academic partner of EFI project activities in Uzbekistan since 2020. Given the further growth of EFI project activities, the EFI Project Coordinator position is created.

Context:

The EFI Project Coordinator will provide coordination and management of EFI project activities in Uzbekistan and WIUT. This includes the following projects but is not limited to:

1) Implementation Economics Olympiad (EO) for 2025

2) Translation of the “Common Sense Economics” book, fourth edition

3) Central Asia and Turkic language-speaking countries regional activities

4) Economics literacy-related training and promotion events

5) Fundraising and other EFI project-related events

The EFI Project Coordinator will manage the members of the team of assistants who will be helping with project logistics and will be joining other departments (i.e. CPLE, Research Society). The EFI Project Coordinator will also work closely with the EFI main office (the President of EFI, Executive Director, Country Programs Manager, and EFI Country Partners), as well as the Deputy Rector on Research and Innovation, the Dean of Graduate School (WIUT).

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and manage the implementation of the Economics Olympiad in Uzbekistan including sponsorship acquisition; school round preparation; implementation of the national round; regional summer bootcamp; logistics for the international round
  • Liaise and work closely with the Ministry of Pre-School and School Education (Center for Olympiads), Agency for Specialized Schools, and other relevant government and international organizations
  • Cooperate and manage the work with EFI project stakeholders, partners, regional networks and sponsors
  • Maintain the social media of EFI Uzbekistan: country page, SMM channels, and other relevant media
  • Manage the budget and disbursement of EFI project activities
  • Develop EFI project-related information posts, press releases, and other PR activities
  • Participate in all EFI-related meetings organized by the Main Office: Zoom meetings, progress calls, etc.
  • Develop and manage the administrative and logistical support systems for EFI project activities
  • Prepare regular reports on EFI project activities: i.e. quarterly reports, weekly / biweekly / monthly meetings with WIUT senior management
  • Cooperate with other WIUT departments (finance, procurement, career center, marketing, law, security) ensuring smooth implementation of EFI project activities at WIUT
  • Maintain proper record keeping and accountability of financial and operational activities of the EFI project at WIUT

Person Specifications:

Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master’s degree in economics, management, political sciences, and related disciplines.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of managerial or administrative experience.
  • Prior work experience in managing international projects is highly desired.

Workload and workspace: the incumbent will be provided with a working space on WIUT premises. The estimated workload of the EFI Project Coordinator workload is the part-time mode, 20  hours per week. The position could be combined with the existing academic workload in WIUT.

Salary expectations: the expected monthly salary will be awarded depending on satisfactory performance and will range between 12’750’000 UZS (1’000 USD) and 15’300’000 UZS (1’200 USD) depending on the person’s qualifications, experience and skills. The individual contract will be signed between the incumbent and the EFI Main Office. The salary indicated is gross and the incumbent is responsible for the payment of all taxes in the due manner.
