Student Support Officer in Career Development Centre

PURPOSE: Student Support Officer of the Career Development Section is to undertake professional support for students of WIUT aimed at development of their employability skills.

CONTEXT: WIUT is a well-established and reputable university. It is modeled on the best practices of UK/International universities. The university owes a duty of care to its students, this duty of care require the development and provision of professional support services. These services will support students in their social life, providing confidence that in times of need there is support, as well as providing opportunities for spiritual, educational and cultural development outside of their formal requirements as students. 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To provide careers education and information advice, and guidance for undergraduate and post-graduate students through one-to-one meetings or through alternative methods of communication.
  • To design, deliver and provide support relating to career management/employability skills workshops.
  • To encourage student engagement and participation in career services employing innovative methods. Other responsibilities include developing and updating information resources, as the key contributor to Career Centre’s online resources delivered through the website and social media channels.
  • To actively participate in organization of careers fair, employer led events and open days along with other employability or university related activities.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATION:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent. Professional qualification in careers guidance or substantive relevant experience.
  • Fluent in English, Russian and Uzbek.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in careers education, information, advice, and guidance, or similar activities.
  • Experience of developing and delivering engaging and interactive training to groups of varying sizes.
  • Experience of providing services to stakeholders other than students, such as academics within a school or faculty, account management or other.
  • Fluent in English, Russian and Uzbek.

  • High level interpersonal and negotiation skills with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Written and oral communication - ability to convey complex information in a simple and engaging manner.
  • Ability to research and develop accurate and stimulating learning materials.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and achieve targets.
  • Demonstrable commitment to personal and professional development that enhances performance in the role.
  • Negotiation and persuasion skills.
