WIUT Joins the Green Marathon for a Sustainable Tomorrow

Westminster International University in Tashkent proudly joined the nationwide “Green Future” marathon, organised as part of the “Yashil Makon” initiative.

The tree-planting campaign was held on the University campus, with active participation from WIUT Rector Komiljon Karimov, Professor Peter Bonfield, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Westminster (UK), the students, and members of WIUT’s Eco Club.

This initiative aligns with the proposal made by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to declare 2025 as the “Year of Environmental Protection and the Green Economy,” contributing to Uzbekistan’s efforts to enhance environmental sustainability. It also reflects WIUT’s commitment to ecological values and its dedication to creating a greener, more sustainable future.

Mastery and Inspiration: Art & Photography Exhibition

WIUT Culture and Creativity Centre proudly hosted the «Mastery and Inspiration» Exhibition of Art & Photography at the Gallery of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. This spectacular event brought together creativity, innovation, and artistry in a celebration of talent and inspiration!

As the first event of the Graduation Week 2024 celebrations, the exhibition featured stunning creative works by WIUT students, alongside exceptional pieces by members of the Academy of Arts. It also included a captivating fashion show, presenting innovative designs by students of the Republican Design School.

The event was a vibrant celebration of art, culture, and collaboration, reminding us of the boundless potential of creativity!

Welcome to WIUT, Ulugbek Rashitov! 

We were honoured to host a special guest lecture with the two-time Olympic Taekwondo Champion, Ulugbek Rashitov – the star of the Uzbekistan national team and champion of the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics! 

Throughout his visit, Ulugbek shared his incredible journey, resilience, and the mindset that propelled him to Olympic victories. His stories inspired our students to pursue excellence, push their limits, and never give up on their dreams.

Westminster International University in Tashkent achieved 2nd place in the Ziyo Cup eSports tournament in the Dota 2 discipline, competing against nearly 400 students from Tashkent and the Tashkent region

Organised by the International Foundation for the Development of Science and Education (Ziyo Forum), this tournament, held from 5th to 7th November at the Cyber Arena, aimed to engage young people in competitive gaming and foster the growth of eSports in Uzbekistan. Participants from 50 state and non-state universities vied for a prize pool of 22.5 million UZS.

The Ziyo Cup reflects Uzbekistan's commitment to nurturing talent in eSports and IT, aligning with the Presidential Decree issued in November 2022, which promotes a safe and supportive ecosystem for eSports. WIUT is honoured to contribute to this exciting landscape and congratulates its students on their impressive achievement in this national competition.

Transnational Education at the Centre of Discussions at the Deep Dialogues Event Organised by the British Council in Manchester, UK

The British Council's Deep Dialogues event on "Transnational Education: A deeper insight into TNE regulatory and policy environment", an initiative under the British Council's Going Global Partnerships, is taking place this week in Manchester, UK.

Conceptualised as global conversations, Deep Dialogues is an event series that brings together higher education practitioners, leaders and experts from across the world to enable focused discussion around key thematic areas that influence higher and further education worldwide.

The target audience for Deep Dialogues includes policymakers and regulators, heads of apex bodies and regulatory bodies, and higher education institution leaders.

This year, WIUT was represented at the Deep Dialogues event by its Rector, Dr. Komiljon Karimov, who was invited as a keynote speaker. In his keynote, Dr. Karimov shared insights on Uzbekistan's higher education reforms and WIUT's experience in advancing transnational education (TNE) within Uzbekistan and beyond.

The event also features panels on the liberalisation of higher education and its impact on TNE, relevance and education quality, as well as a session dedicated to enhancing inclusivity and outcomes in TNE.

Strengthening Cybersecurity Awareness at WIUT!

Westminster International University in Tashkent recently hosted an esteemed panel of experts from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, InFinBank, and the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the City of Tashkent to engage in an important dialogue on cybersecurity and fraud prevention. This event provided WIUT staff with valuable insights and knowledge to safeguard digital information and heighten awareness of cybersecurity threats.

The panel featured Rustam Baltaev, Head of Department at the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, along with InFinBank representatives Pulat Timurovich Salimov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board; Pavel Alekseevich Saprykin, Chief Information Security Specialist; and Maryam Valievna Tuichieva, Marketing Specialist. From the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Tashkent City, Senior Lieutenant Mirjalilov Miraziz and Senior Lieutenant Nematov Jakhongir, both from the Department for Combating Information Crimes, shared their expertise.

Their presentations focused on effective strategies for identifying and preventing cyber threats, with particular emphasis on safeguarding bank accounts and recognising signs of transaction fraud. Practical guidance was provided on how to protect sensitive information, detect fraudulent activity, and secure financial data in today’s increasingly digital environment.

WIUT at IREG 2024 Conference: Exploring the Impact of AI on Higher Education and Rankings

Dr. Komiljon Karimov, Rector of Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT), participated in the esteemed IREG 2024 Conference in Bucharest, Romania. This year's theme, "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Altering HE and Rankings," brought together global experts and university leaders to discuss the transformative effects of AI on higher education and its influence on university rankings.

Dr. Komiljon Karimov delivered a compelling address in the session, "Strategies Universities Apply Towards Rankings," offering insights into the approaches WIUT and other institutions employ to navigate the evolving academic landscape.

Additionally, we are delighted to announce that, following a members' vote, WIUT has officially joined the IREG Network as a recognised member institution. This milestone reflects our commitment to academic excellence and a proactive stance on educational advancements.

IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence (in short: IREG Observatory) is an international institutional non-profit association of ranking organisations, universities and other bodies interested in university rankings and academic excellence. Its purpose is to strengthen public awareness and understanding of various issues related to university rankings and academic excellence.

Celebrating Uzbek Culture at the “Milliy Qadriyatlar Sayli” Festival

On November 8, WIUT students gathered at the Adiblar Xiyoboni park to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Uzbek language as the state language at the “Milliy Qadriyatlar Sayli” cultural festival! Organised with Tashkent’s higher education institutions, the event offered an unforgettable experience in honouring Uzbek heritage.

Our talented WIUT students took the stage, performing dramatic scenes from cherished Uzbek literary works:

Fido-Biznes Field Trip
On October 23rd, WIUT students had an exclusive visit to Fido-Biznes, diving into the world of FinTech. They learned about the crucial role of project managers in the industry and received tips on building strong resumes and conducting interviews.

Wings Distribution Company Visit
On October 24th, our students explored the Wings Distribution company. They toured the warehouse, learned about the company’s brands and operations, and enjoyed a career talk with the Unit Manager of Modern Retail. Active students even won special prizes from Wings!

Financial Literacy Workshop with Kapitalbank
On October 31st, Kapitalbank hosted an interactive workshop on financial literacy. Led by Rustam Sagdullayev, students explored money management and savings strategies, engaging in an exciting game and a lively Q&A session.

InterContinental Tashkent Field Trip
On November 1st, students visited the luxurious InterContinental Tashkent. They explored the hotel’s stunning facilities and learned about career opportunities in hospitality, gaining insights into the industry from the hotel’s team.

WIUT Hosts Book Fair to Celebrate Uzbek Language Day

In honour of Uzbek Language Day, Westminster International University in Tashkent celebrated with a special event titled "Ona Tili – Millatning Ruhidir", dedicated to the beauty and cultural importance of the Uzbek language. Central to the event was an impressive Book Fair featuring a rich selection of Uzbek literary works alongside renowned international titles. From timeless classics to modern works, each book in the collection offered a glimpse into Uzbekistan's vibrant cultural heritage.

The celebration extended beyond the book exhibition, as attendees engaged in creative activities and competitions, including readings from iconic literary works, poetry recitals, and lively role-plays of famous scenes from Uzbek literature. These activities brought the stories to life, allowing participants to experience the depth and artistry of Uzbek literature firsthand.
