Since its establishment in 2002 as the first International University in Uzbekistan in partnership with the University of Westminster, UK, WIUT has developed as a truly dedicated educator and provider of British Degrees at the heart of Central Asia. Today, WIUT celebrates its 23rd Anniversary, marking over two decades of academic excellence and contribution to education. WIUT has diversified the Courses offered at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, developed as a research University, widened its campus and already has alumni of over 8,100 graduates.

- 2004 – WIUT held its first international conference on ‘Higher Education Management: International Trends and Local Sustainability.”
- 2005 – The Graduation of the first cohort of 16 graduates.
- 2006 – The first postgraduate degrees were validated by the University of Westminster – International Business and Management and Special Study in Teaching and Learning.
- 2009 – The University launched its “Pre-University” course, where University applicants are more effectively trained to matriculate at WIUT.
- 2013 – WIUT opened doors of a new Amir Temur Building (ATB)
- 2015 – Inauguration of the WIUT Alumni Association
- 2018 – WIUT held the first International Conference in Internationalization and Innovations in Higher Education, associated with the new internationally peer-reviewed journal Silk Road: A Journal of Eurasian Development.

- Launch of the Center for Policy Research and Outreach (CPRO)
- Launch of the innoWIUT Entrepreneurial Lab
- Launch of the Centre for Professional and Lifelong Education (CPLE)
- Opening of SAP Next-Gen Entrepreneurship and Innovation Lab. The University has been part of the SAP University Alliance since 2015.
- Founding of the Bloomberg Financial Research and Training Lab, which provides access to current and historical stock prices and world currency exchange rates. Currency exchange rates and information on world exchanges.
- 2020 – WIUT opened doors to a new state-of-the-art Shakhrisabz Building (ShB).
- 2023 – WIUT was awarded the Top University “Scopus Award - 2023” for its scientific achievements in “Societal Impact of Research: Social Sciences”.
- 2024 – WIUT has been awarded the Marketing Association of Uzbekistan "Brand of the Year 2023" award among all higher education institutions in Uzbekistan in open public voting.
- 2024 – The number of validated Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses offered by the University reached 6 and 9, respectively.
Highlights of the Year 2024
- For the very first time, Uzbekistan was included in the Future of Jobs Report at the World Economic Forum. Westminster International University has contributed to the compilation of Key Insights about Uzbekistan.
- WIUT launched the "CREATIVE FOCUS@WIUT" initiative in collaboration with "FOCUS" Film and Theatre School, fostering innovation and creativity within its academic community.
- WIUT students were in the top 1% globally in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge 2023. They also ranked 1st in Central Asia and 4th in Asia (by country) among 2,000 University teams.
- The second Uzbekistan-UK Education Forum was held on March 4–5, 2024, through a joint effort by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the British Council in Uzbekistan, the University of Westminster, and WIUT.
- WIUT successfully hosted the International Conference on Climate Change, Water Scarcity, and Migration in Central Asia.
- In May, WIUT was awarded by the Marketing Association of Uzbekistan the "Brand of the Year 2023" award among all higher education institutions in Uzbekistan in open public voting. This is the second time WIUT has won this award.
- The startup from innoWIUT won the Venture Crawl International Pitch Competition 2024.
- In November, WIUT celebrated Graduation Week 2024, a landmark event that included the “Mastery and Inspiration” Art Exhibition, Alumni Reunion 2024, the 3rd Tashkent Business and Economics Forum, the inaugural WIUT Business Forum, and the grand Graduation Ceremony, bringing together students, alumni, and distinguished guests in a vibrant celebration of achievement and innovation.
- WIUT successfully launched the Creative Incubator Programme in cooperation with the Art and Culture Development Foundation and IT Park Uzbekistan – an initiative to support young talent and advance Uzbekistan's creative economy.
- Two new courses, BSc in Computer Science and BSc in Economics with Data Science, were validated.
