TIMUN: YOUTH DIPLOMACY IN ACTION
The Tashkent International Model United Nations (TIMUN) is a student-led conference that brings the spirit of international diplomacy into an educational setting. Organised in the format of a Model United Nations, TIMUN gives young people the opportunity to step into the role of country delegates, debate global challenges, negotiate solutions, and experience how multilateral dialogue works in practice.

While TIMUN remains an independent youth-led initiative, the UNESCO Chair on Knowledge Economy at WIUT supports and coordinates the event as part of its broader commitment to youth empowerment, global citizenship, and sustainable development education. The conference closely aligns with the values of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, as committee agendas are usually built around pressing global and regional issues, including peace, justice, education, climate action, social inclusion, innovation, and international cooperation.
Each year, TIMUN hosts more than 300–400 young participants from universities and educational institutions, creating a vibrant platform for dialogue, leadership, and intercultural exchange at Westminster International University in Tashkent.
Over the course of a usually three-day conference, students work in committees, represent assigned countries, prepare position papers, deliver speeches, negotiate resolutions, and develop their diplomatic and public speaking skills.
The conference is also strengthened through collaboration with UN agencies in Uzbekistan, institutional partners, and sponsors who support youth-led activities and meaningful dialogue. Beyond formal debate, TIMUN helps students build confidence, broaden their worldview, and understand the importance of cooperation in addressing complex global challenges. In this way, TIMUN serves as a powerful platform where youth voices are heard, ideas are tested, and future leaders are shaped through dialogue, diplomacy, and shared responsibility.
